| St Mary's is in the East London Borough of Newham and comes under the diocese of Chelmsford. It is only 3 miles from the old London docks, and the building still has the scars it suffered during the Blitz. | |

The parish is in a multi-cultural borough. The local population
is extremely diverse; east-end families who have lived here for
generations, young professionals commuting to the City, immigrants
and refugees of many nationalities.
The docks fell into disuse in the 70's, but the area is gradually being regenerated under the Docklands development scheme. |
